Integration and relaunch of the country-specific website for the UK

The previous website of pfm medical UK Ltd. - a sales subsidiary of pfm medical gmbh - was set up on the basis of WordPress with the aim of providing customers with important product information. The website only had a limited set of features and functions - no contact form and no on-site search function - and was based as closely as possible on the layout of the German and international corporate website.

In order to standardize the company websites in terms of content, product information and layout, pfm medical gmbh decided to migrate the website www.pfmmedical.co.uk to the existing TYPO3 installation.

Project details

At the beginning of the project “Integration of country-specific websites into the TYPO3 installation”, a workshop was held at pfm medical gmbh in Cologne, which served to gather the requirements of the British colleagues for their new website and to plan the next steps in the migration process - taking into account the challenges involved in integrating an existing website into an existing installation.

An additional page tree was created in the TYPO3 installation for the UK-specific website. Its layout is identical to the German and international corporate site. Basic features and functions - such as the on-site search function, the general contact form, the news and press releases and the event calendar - were also adopted from the corporate sites.

One special feature is the product catalog, for which a separate template was developed, as there is no existing connection to the PIM system of pfm medical gmbh. Since pfmmedical.co.uk also has country-specific products, the entire product catalogue is maintained editorially/manually.

The product detail pages are maintained using a specialised page layout, which has a content column structure that corresponds to the design of the product detail pages on the German and international corporate site. This enables the technical editor to see in the TYPO3 backend how the pages are structured and which content is to be maintained at which position.

Content audit and migration of content

After the first workshop, pfmmedical.co.uk underwent a content review. Part of this audit was a comparison of the structure / layout of the current website with the structure of the international corporate website pfmmedical. com, as well as a review of whether the existing content and structures are compatible or whether there are fundamental differences that require restructuring of the content or an expansion of the templates.

The result of the content audit was that no further special page layouts and templates are required for the new website - with the exception of the separate template for the product catalog - and that the majority of the content can be integrated into the existing structure of the previous corporate sites without major effort.

Once all content and product information had been transferred from WordPress to the TYPO3 installation, the new website was launched at the beginning of December 2022 and the seamless integration of the UK website into the existing installation was successfully completed.
